Associate Roles Available
Social Finance is seeking an outstanding individual to join our small, entrepreneurial team as an Associate.
Social Finance offers investment banking services to the social sector. Social Finance was born out of the Commission on Unclaimed Assets, chaired by Sir Ronald Cohen, which recommended the creation of a Social Investment Bank to accelerate the flow of non-government capital to address social issues.
Role and Responsibilities
At any time Associates will work on a number of the following types of project alongside a Director or Associate Director:
- Advisory projects – assisting social sector organisations to create financial solutions to social exclusion, for example developing a finance facility for financially excluded families with disabled children
- Capital raisings – supporting social sector organisations to scale their operations and impact by raising debt or equity capital at scale, for example raising a bond to finance the expansion of a non-profit personal loan company
- Product innovation – developing new financial products that align social and financial returns and meet the interests of the social sector and socially motivated investors. For example Social Finance’s ‘Social Impact Bonds’ that align government and non-government investment around concrete social outcomes
- Research & market intelligence – developing research to assist investors to deploy capital to generate a social and financial return, for example developing practical guides to social investment
Associates play an important role in all projects and often manage a section of the work.
Skills and Experience
We are looking for entrepreneurial professionals who have an interest in social change.
Candidates must have:
- Strong interest in how investment approaches can be used to drive social impact
- Experience in managing and delivering projects to deadline with multiple stakeholders
- Strong communication skills across diverse audiences
- Logical with strong numeracy skills
- Ability to create and analyse solutions to complex problems
- Ability to quickly research, synthesise and summarise key lessons on unfamiliar topics
- Prior experience working or volunteering within the social sector
- Working currently as an associate within their existing organisation and 2.1 degree from a good university
Experience of at least three of the following areas:
- Capital raising, Advisory, or research
- Developing PowerPoint presentations
- Building financial models in Excel
- Working in an innovative social sector organisation
Social Finance is interested in hearing from candidates from the social sector, investment banking and consulting industries.
