JUST Finance: A new vision for community finance

JUST Finance: A new vision for community finance

Publication date:
February 2012
Author:
CDFA

The past decade has seen the UK’s community finance sector take root. With over £800m of loans made to some of the most underserved areas of the country, community development finance institutions (CDFIs) have created and sustained tens of thousands of businesses, social enterprises and jobs as well as saving thousands more from predatory lenders . Yet this remains a small proportion of the overall financial services industry, much too small to achieve the step change in wealth creation, new jobs and economic growth that our CDFI members are uniquely capable of. Impressive though the past decade’s achievements are, we must do more to scale this potential and make it a reality.

‘JUST Finance’ lays out a simple but ambitious plan of how to do this. But the plan needs your support and contribution to make it a reality. With economic flatlining, concern at the volatility of global markets and fundamental questioning of traditional economic models,
there’s hunger for change – for an approach that is proven, sustainable and that can really reach the heart of communities. That’s exactly what CDFIs and the community finance they deliver can offer. Please join us in making finance JUST.
