Salary: £3,000

Social Finance is seeking to recruit up to four non-executive directors over the course of the summer 2024. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join Social Finance’s dedicated, high-calibre, diverse Board and contribute to the scale-up of an ethos driven, social-purpose organisation, with a mission to deliver impact at scale, by unleashing the potential of local communities, to tackle complex and enduring social problems. 

In the context of succession planning and continual evolvement of the board, Social Finance is seeking to recruit up to four non-executive directors over the course of the summer 2024. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join Social Finance’s dedicated, high-calibre, diverse Board and contribute to the scale-up of an ethos driven, social-purpose organisation, with a mission to deliver impact at scale, by unleashing the potential of local communities, to tackle complex and enduring social problems. At this critical juncture for the organisation’s development and growth, the Board is particularly keen to recruit new NEDs with:

• Finance, audit and risk backgrounds
• Corporate finance and/​or investment experience
• Experience with one or more of: consultancy business models, working in or with small / medium sized businesses, public sector consulting (working from the inside or outside of the public sector), and/​or working with the NHS

Key responsibilities

The Finance/​Audit NEDs are required to bring:

• An accounting qualification with experience working in senior level roles in finance, audit and/​or assurance and risk management
• This experience could have been gained in professional services, the corporate sector and/​or the third sector
• Experience of/​exposure to audit and risk committees as an executive or non-executive


The Corporate Finance / Investment NEDs are required to bring:

• Experience of the corporate finance and/​or wider investment sector
• An appreciation for the role finance can play in delivering social outcomes


Additional NEDs with one or more of the following skills and experience:

• Experience of working in, or exposure to, consultancy business models, ideally with local and/​or central government and/​or the NHS
• Understanding of working in a SME/​entrepreneurial context will be helpful
• An appreciation of the data and digital landscape will be beneficial
• Experience of/​exposure to boards/​committees as an executive or NED

Skills and experience

All candidates will bring:

• An evident deep commitment to the mission of the organisation and a passion for its purpose and impact
• An appreciation of the challenges of working effectively across the social, private and/​or public sectors
• The ability to influence the thinking and discussions around broader strategy, vision and impact of the organisation
• Experience of working in a collegial environment with a consensual approach to relationship building
• The enthusiasm and time to engage fully as a member of the board and to support the leadership team to enable the organisation to develop, grow and maximise its impact

Working at Social Finance

The time commitment is expected to be c.10–15 days per annum. All NEDs are offered an annual sum of £3,000 in consideration for their time.
