For this Fund we are using the following description of Overrepresented girls and young women’

In the context of girls and young women’s experiences of gangs, violence and exploitation, overrepresented’ refers to the disproportionate number of Black and global majority girls and young women affected [1]. Although research is available, it is limited – yet this overrepresentation is well known amongst sector professionals, and we want to ensure that this experience is adequately recognised.

For this Fund we are using the following description of Invisibilised girls and young women’

Invisibilised’ refers to girls and young women whose experiences are often overlooked in practice, policy and research, with some identities particularly likely to be excluded from these conversations.

Organisations that support invisibilised girls and young women might be working with:

  • girls and young women with mental ill-health and neurodivergence;
  • girls and young women with disabilities;
  • LGBTQ+ girls and young women;
  • girls and young women with experiences of care;
  • migratised girls and young women;
  • girls and young women from minoritised religious groups;
  • girls and young women for whom English is not their preferred language
  • girls and young women from other minoritised and marginalised groups.

Please note that this list is not exhaustive.
